
GÁRBO TEATER
GÁRBO TEATER is an independent theatre company established in Sweden in 2020 by a visionary actress and director trained at GITIS. Emerging in the midst of a global pandemic, the project was conceived not only as a way to continue artistic creation under difficult conditions but also as an ambitious attempt to question and reinvent the very nature of theatrical performance.
The company’s inaugural work was an intimate adaptation of Pushkin’s “The Snowstorm,” produced in creative partnership with visual artist Irina Johnson. This debut was notable for its visual inventiveness: ephemeral, “living” stage sets were rendered in real time with sand drawings projected onto the scene, merging visual art with performance in a strikingly poetic gesture.
Since then, GÁRBO TEATER has evolved into an international platform dedicated to performative exploration. It serves as a meeting point for artists working across languages, disciplines, and cultural contexts—transforming diverse environments into living stages and prioritizing both mobility and intimacy.
GÁRBO TEATER is currently composed of four affiliate branches:

A fashion and costume design initiative at the intersection of style and stagecraft.
GÁRBO GENERATOR
A laboratory for creative research, residencies, and dialogue.
GÁRBO PRODUCTION
Focused on film, multimedia, and performative event production.
GÁRBO FESTIVAL
A traveling festival showcasing experimental and contemporary theatre across Europe.
